Popular Bodywork Approaches-An Overview

Ethics in the Therapeutic Setting

Organ Systems from Skin to Muscular
This lesson explains the therapist's role in understanding the organ systems. You will learn the basics about the immune and lymphatic systems, the skeleton, muscles and movement, how muscles work, the effect of exercise on muscles, the functions of the skin, the cardiovascular and circulatory systems, and how each of these systems is influenced by massage.

Movement and Support I-The Shoulder Girdle and Arm
The muscles, bones and joints of the shoulder girdle are detailed in this lesson. Flashcards and a practical checklist will ensure that you can locate these parts of anatomy on the body.

Safety Precautions for the Practitioner and the Client
In this lesson, you will learn how to create a safe environment for both you and your client. You will learn how your body works when you're performing a massage, how to strengthen your muscles to avoid injury, and when a client should be referred to another health care practitioner.

Movement and Support II-The Forearm and Hand

Swedish Massage II-Procedures
These lesson continues your education in Swedish massage. You'll add to your knowledge of Swedish techniques by learning specific procedures for massaging the upper and lower limbs, the chest, abdomen and back.

Movement and Support IV-The Torso: Front and Back
You will learn all about muscles, bones, and joints of the back and torso, so you can benefit your clients in these body regions.

Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine
In this lesson, you will learn about the philosophy and practice of Chinese medicine, which emphasizes health as balance and illness as imbalance. You will learn about chi and the Five Element-Theory, as well as Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners integrate massage, herbs, and dietetic theory into their approach.

Movement and Support V - The Pelvis and Thigh
This lesson will continue to teach you about the muscles, bones and joints of body areas, specifically the pelvis and the thigh.

Movement and Support VI - The Knee, Leg and Foot
This lesson teaches you about the muscles, bones and joints of the leg and foot. You will practice locating these muscles and joints on the body.

The Therapeutic Setting-Client Comfort and Client Records
Learn how to establish and maintain a client-centered approach in your massage therapy practice. You will learn how to assess client situations and how to keep client records.

Energy Techniques
An overview of various types of energy techniques will be provided in this lesson. In addition, you will learn when and how to integrate energy techniques into a massage. You'll also learn how to trace your meridians, and have the opportunity to relax with a guide meditation exercise.

Hydrotherapy Techniques
You will learn about the benefits of using heat and cold in body treatments, the supplied used, the techniques for applying heat and cold to the body, and other related techniques. You'll also learn how to use these techniques safely.

Sports Massage I-Theory and Techniques
You will learn about the unique features and benefits of sports massage and when you should or should not use sports massage. In addition, learn how to use various sports massage techniques, such as warm-up and cool-down techniques, passive and active stretching, pressure and friction and more.

Sports Massage II-Procedures
In this lesson, you will continue to learn about sports massage, with an emphasis on procedures and sequences suitable for athletes. You'll also learn the basics of postural analysis and how to integrate sports and Swedish massage.

Massage Contraindications and Cautions
Major diseases and injuries and their relation to massage therapy will be discussed. You will learn when and when not to treat clients who have preexisting conditions and when to get physicians' permission to treat clients.

Disease Education
You will learn about how HIV, AIDS, hepatitis and tuberculosis affect a practitioner's life, the methods of transmission, effective prevention measures, high risk groups and issues involved in treating terminally ill patients. You'll also find out the importance of first aid training for the health care professional.

Legal Issues for the Massage Therapist
In this lesson, you will learn about certification and licensing requirements, insurance issues, laws and liabilities. Additionally, you'll learn the difference between assessment and diagnosis, how to define your scope of practice, and when to refer clients to another practitioner.

On-site Training
Upon successful completion of the written portion of your course, 200 hours of hands-on massage training under the guidance of Colorado-certified massage therapy instructors is provided.
